Movement

Manish Sharma

I took the train home today

How I reached my destination, I do not know

I do not recall moving at all

Trees came and went

Surpassed only by the number of people

Male pattern baldness was the common theme

Mobile phones were the new smallpox

All ages, races and persuasions whispered

Bankers challenged each other

Finance this, mortgage that

Sell, buy, hold…

A public display of wisdom the aim

A clear lack of knowledge the result

Bored with eavesdropping, I watched others disembark at what they called ‘their stop’

Everyone was reaching somewhere

How could I?

I do not recall moving at all

Swaying on the tracks, the train gathered speed

Trying to intimidate small children

Not me though

I was not scared

In fact, I do not recall moving at all
