She Cried

Hayley Potter

When the lights go down

and the music stops

and the world seems all but gone.

She opens her eyes

and searches her soul

for the more than familiar song.

The song that is sung

by the Man and his men

at times of incredible need.

The song that is sung

by the Man and his men

at times of incredible greed.

The fear of ourselves

and the fear of loss

is the power he holds above.

She opens her eyes

and her soul starts to die

as she draws back her lasting love.

The world is closed

and the curtains are drawn

and all the compassion has died.

She watches him speak

and listens to hate

and understood why it is that she cried.
