Silver-winged Kite

Hung Dao

My fine silver-winged kite

Wanted to be alive
It couldn't wait to fly

Up the silky blue sky
It dreams one day

To see a land faraway

A labour of love

Pure heart of a dove
Guided by skill and restraint
But being young and vain
It severed the tie
And flew up the seventh sky

It was beyond my care
Til chance found it thread bare
Floating in the sea

In mourning and bereave
Swept away by a malevolent wave
I wept its fate and forgave

Oh my silver-winged kite

Of beauty and might
When will your heart mend?
You will lift your wing again
To see the land

Beyond the world's end
